Give a Dog a Laser Gun

I notice a trend when I watch something that's horribly put together, if there is a dog, said dog becomes the best aspect of the film. Case in point, that dog from The Christmas Tree, who was the only likeable character, yet couldn't salvage that trainwreck of a holiday special. Once again, this happened when I attempted to watch The Legend of the Titanic and Tentacolino for myself in the wake of watching their respective reviews by the Nostalgia Critic and TheMysteriousMrEnter. I couldn't sit through either in their entirety, but I should have figured that given that said reviews pretty much highlighted their faults. With these "films", the one character I even remotely gave a damn about was the dog, named Smile of all things (I went in thinking his name was Smiley). Perhaps it's just a part of me that desperately wants to find something to like about this crap, and I do have a soft spot for dogs. Of course, this pretty much highlights a common tactic employed by such mediocre to atrocious works. They'll bring in a dog to make the film more "presentable" because, hey, people like dogs. Ironically, in cases such as these, the dogs become the only likeable aspects, at best.

Still, can't argue with Smile when the highlight of that piece of crap was him coming out on a damn chariot and firing a laser gun at sharks. Was it horribly executed? Yes. Was it practically out of nowhere? Yes. Is it plain ridiculous? Yes. But at the end of the day, it's a dog managing enough dexterity to fire a laser gun to take out a bunch of sharks. I'll take what I can get.
